Young people supported by EveryYouth

Despite mounting challenges for young people across the UK, including an 11-year high of youth unemployment, EveryYouth has increased the number of young people staying in jobs, education or training for three months or more by 49%.

2024 saw political uncertainty and a deepening mental health crisis amid soaring rents, food prices, and energy costs, making it nearly impossible for many young people experiencing homelessness to secure stable housing or plan for their future, even with a full-time job.

But our impact report demonstrates how the EveryYouth Employed, Healthy and Homed programmes facilitated significant steps towards independence for the 2,309 young people we supported.

Last year, 118,134 young people faced homelessness (Centrepoint). That’s one young person every four minutes. The figure represents a significant 10 percent rise on the previous year, showing that youth homelessness is at an all time high in the UK. The actual number is likely to be much higher due to hidden or unreported homelessness.

Youth homelessness is at an all time high in the UK. It has never been clearer that EveryYouth is needed.

It has never been clearer that EveryYouth is needed. Our programmes provide the practical and emotional support young people need to break through these barriers. Whether it’s securing safe housing, accessing vital mental health services, or receiving the right support to enter employment, EveryYouth ensures that young people aren’t defined by their circumstances.

We fund outcomes, which allows Delivery Partners flexibility to provide support in a way that’s most effective for the young people they work with. We connect regional charities to learn from each other but also businesses, community groups, academics and others, so they too can create opportunities for young people. We scale ideas that have been tried and tested locally and we are committed to continuous learning.

Our approach allows us compare different ways of working and we are intent on collating and publishing that learning.

Key insights from the EveryYouth 2024 Impact Report:

EveryYouth Employed

The job market remains tough for young people. By the end of 2024, 14% more young people were not in education, employment or training than in 2023 — now nearly 1 in 7. This rise is driven by declining job opportunities, with unemployment (5.5%) and economic inactivity (8.1%) at their highest since the pandemic.

But traineeship completions under the EveryYouth Employed programme more than doubled (up 123%) thanks to strong local partnerships built by our Delivery Partners. Since 2023, there has also been a 49% increase in young people sustaining employment, education or training (EET) outcomes for three months or more.

Employability Boost

The Employability Boost is a central feature of EveryYouth Employed. This bursary scheme helps young people overcome prohibitive costs associated with getting into work and education, such as course fees or the bus fare to a job interview.

There has been a 51% increase in Boosts awarded for transport costs compared to 2023, showing the financial difficulty young people face, especially in rural areas, in getting to and from work.

EveryYouth Homed

In 2024, rising rents and the refreezing of Local Housing Allowance created even greater barriers to stable housing. These pressures are expected to push thousands further into poverty and make it even harder for young people to find a safe place to call home.

Through our Housing Fund, we supported young people to find and maintain tenancies. A total of 255 young people moved into independent living with one-to-one support from specialist Housing Officers.

To help turn a house into a home, we also provided 150 Move-On Grants for essentials like kitchen appliances, white goods and bedding.

Future Builders

In 2024, with backing from JLCT and the B&Q Foundation, the EveryYouth Network expanded Future Builders by nearly 22%, creating 10 new bedspaces.

Thirty-six young people moved into Future Builders homes and 28 gained professional experience for the first time. Of those who moved on, 89% sustained employment for at least six months, showing the transformative impact of stable accommodation.

EveryYouth Healthy

After accessing EveryYouth Healthy, which launched in 2022, 93% of young people surveyed reported improved self-esteem and 90% of young people surveyed felt more hopeful about the future.
